Children aged 4-12 years from 3 slum areas in Davao City Poblacion were included into the study. Stool collection was properly instructed. Each stool specimen was tested by routine fecalysis and by Kato-Katz method. Eighty-two received 1/2 - 1 1/2 tablespoon niyog-niyogan suspension while eighty-six received tetramizole; the dose depending on age of the patient. The result showed that niyog-niyogan is effective as vermifuge against very light to light infection of Ascaris with a cure rate of 21 percent and an improvement rate of 30 percent. The action of niyog-niyogan against trichuris is even poorer. Tetramizole was found to be much better than niyog-niyogan.In terms of acceptability most children prefer tetramizole complaining niyog-niyogan granules sticking to/remaining in between their teeth or their buccal mucosa.More side effects was reported after niyog niyogan treatment.
