This study aims to determine the effects of the implementation of an Ecological Solid Waste Management Program (ESWMP) on the knowledge and practices in recycling among the residents of Barangay Poblacion, Lakewood, ZDS. A pre and post interventional design was used. A total of 276 households were selected using simple random sampling. Results show that among the 3 types of wastes produced by the barangay; recyclables comprised 9% of the total bulk. The Solid Waste Management Committee (SWMC) was reestablished and the pre existing non implemented Solid Waste Management Program of the barangay was revised and implemented. A Municipal Ordinance (Ordinance no. 016 -2011) was passed, approved and enacted facilitating the information, education, and campaign (IEC) as the intervention of this research. Results showed that there was an increase in the number of households that practice recycling after the intervention and the number and volume of recyclables sold increased. Glass bottle sales increased by 96%, scrap metal sales increased by 72%, plastics sales increased by 60% and paper sales increased by 42%. The increase in the knowledge and practices of the residents regarding Solid Waste Management particularly recycling with a p-value of 0.004 and 0.034 respectively are statistically significant. Therefore, the implementation of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Program (ESWMP) has a significant effect on the knowledge and practices of the residents regarding waste management particularly recycling. The researcher recommends to conduct a similar research study in a different period to determine the impact of the seasonal effect in the practice of recycling.
