This study aimed to determine the effects of a public education seminar on road safety, a self-regulatory group and a municipal ordinance on the knowledge and practices of habal-habal drivers in the municipality of Mahayag, Zamboanga del Sur. This is a pre and post interventional study. An initial survey done for base-line data utilizing a survey questionnaire. A public education seminar on road safety was given which is one (1) of the three (3) interventions of the study. The seminar was headed by the LTO and PNP lecturers. The second intervention was a formation of a self-regulatory group which help drafted the municipal ordinance and will guide the group of habal-habal drivers. The last intervention was a municipal ordinance. Evaluation done two (2) times using the same questionnaire on scheduled intervals. For the checklist on actual practices, they were evaluated one (1) time using the same checklist. The intervals of the evaluation were immediately after the seminar and one (1) month after the seminar. There were fifty-two (52) respondents who participated in the study. Results revealed all respondents showed significant improvement in their knowledge and self-reported practices (p=0.00), however, in the actual practices, there were 2 items that revealed insignificance. These are overloading and feeling of being tired while driving, with p=0.549 and 0.185 respectively. The mean score of the knowledge started with 3.62 and increase to 5.85 which signifies no knowledge decay and the self-reported practices remained positive all throughout the study with significant p-values. Other actual practices showed steady improvements with significant p-values. The study concluded that the interventions of a public education seminar, self-regulatory group and a municipal ordinance were effective in improving the knowledge and practices of habal-habal drivers in the Municipality of Mahayag, Zamboanga del Sur.
