General Objective: To determine if the crude aqeous seed extracts of Mangifera indica would significantly reduce fasting blood glucose (FBG) levels of diazoxide-induced hyperglycemic male rats as compared to chlorpropamide.Specific Objectives:1. To determine the effect of a crude aqeous seed extract of Mangifera indica (MEX) on FBG after induction of hyperglycemia by diazoxide in male sprague-dawley rats;2. To determine if MEX will significantly lower elevated blood glucose levels due to diazoxide, as compared to a placebo (i.e. distilled water);3. To compare the effect of increasing the concentration of MEX on the FBG on the hyperglycemic rats;4. To compare the effect of MEX with chlorpropamide, a standard hypoglycemic drug;5. To determine if there is interaction among the variables involved.
